Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is a private, coeducational liberal arts institution located in Harrogate, Tennessee. As with previous responses, please note that my knowledge is current up to September 2021, and some information may have changed since then.
1. History: LMU was founded in 1897 by General Oliver O. Howard, a Civil War Union Army officer, and Reverend A.A. Myers, a prominent minister. The university is named in honor of President Abraham Lincoln, who envisioned a university for the people of the Cumberland Gap region. LMU was initially chartered as a living memorial to Lincoln, and its mission has always been to serve the educational needs of the local population.
2. Campus: LMU's main campus is situated on over 1,000 acres in the picturesque Cumberland Gap area of Harrogate, Tennessee, near the borders of Kentucky and Virginia.
